Thailand's urban settlements are divided into large and (medium) cities and towns (small towns), which have been given some of the functions of districts and communities in the city-owned area. The remaining localities are villages.

Three levels of administrative division of urban (municipal) entities (Thai เทศบาล, thetsaban):

large city (thetsaban nakhon): over 50 thousand inhabitants, population density above 3 thousand people per 1 km²
(medium) city (Thetsaban Myang): over 10,000 inhabitants, population density above 3,000 people per km² - or the center of the province
township (small town, Thetsaban tambon): over 5,000 inhabitants, population density above 1,500 people per km².
Despite its name, a thetsaban tambon (lit. “community town”) is not necessarily the same as a separate community (tambon).

In addition to its population, a municipality must generate enough revenue for its budget to be able to fulfill its functions.

Large and small towns are divided into chumchon (communities), similar to villages (muban) in rural areas.

Some cities already contain the word Nakhon in their names, for example, within the province of Nakhonratchasima there is one district called Amphae Myang Nakhonratchasima, as well as the large city of Thetsaban Nakhon Nakhon Nakhonratchasima.

The City of Pattaya is a special type of municipality under special administration. This administrative division also excludes the metropolitan city of Bangkok, which is officially called the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (Bangkok Metropolitan Administration)

Thailand is divided into 77 provinces (Thai จังหวัด, “Changwat”), including the capital Bangkok, which was a municipality from 1972 to 2013.

Each province is subdivided into districts - as of 2011, there are a total of 878 districts (อำเภอ, “amphe”, amphoe) and 50 Bangkok city districts (เขต, khet, khet). Each province has one central district (อำเภอเมือง, “amphemyang”, amphoe mueang, e.g. for Chiang Mai province it is Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai). The exception is Ayutthaya, where both the province and the central district are entirely called “Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya” (Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya). There were 81 small districts (กิ่งอำเภอ, “kingamphe”, king amphoe, literally: “branch amphoe”) until 2007, after which they were converted to regular amphoe.

In Bangkok, the city districts are called khet (เขต), which are further divided into kwangs (แขวง), roughly similar to tambon (communities or sub-districts) in other provinces.

Tambon (ตำบล) are further divided into muban (หมู่บ้าน), that is, townships (villages).

The start of the rainy season
May is generally considered the start of the rainy season in Thailand. Tropical showers tend to be less frequent and milder this month. Temperatures remain high in May, ranging between +30°C and +35°C.

Bangkok and central Thailand: here rainy days are becoming more frequent, but have time to be diluted by sunny periods, making weather conditions more varied.
Northern Thailand (Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai): clouds begin to form in the foothills and precipitation becomes steady.
Southern Thailand: rains begin to intensify, especially on the west coast (Andaman Sea including Phuket) and east coast (Gulf of Thailand including Samui and Pattaya).

Transportation in Thailand
Let's tell you about modes of transportation in Thailand, including public transportation, its peculiarities and ticket prices.
Public transportation in Thailand is very diverse. Here you can find both traditional and very familiar to the European means of transportation, and unusual local. Within the country it is most practical to move by airplanes, buses and trains. It is faster and cheaper. If you need to get from one end of the city to the other, you should choose a motorcycle, bus, cab, tuk-tuk. In most villages and hamlets there are still elephants and rickshaws. Air transportation
Air travel is always fast and expensive. The following airlines are represented in Thailand:

Thai Smile, which covers 25 cities within the country, and boasts several hundred international flights. Excellent service is more than paid for by rather high prices;

Bangkok Airways, connecting dozens of locations in Thailand and several dozen major cities around the world. Prices of this company are especially affordable during seasonal discounts and sales;

AirAsia, a low-cost carrier from neighboring Malaysia, is a great option for those who are ready to fly economy class and are eager to save money;

NokAir and Orient Thai Airlines - low-cost carriers directly from Thailand, offering drop-offs in Bangkok and Phuket.

Air transportation
Bus
Of the usual transportation, the bus is the most popular. It largely compensates for the underdeveloped railroad network in the country. In the capital of the country there are three major bus stations, from which transportation leaves in the south and west, east, north and northeast directions, respectively.

The fare for this transportation depends on the distance of travel and the class of bus chosen:

the most inexpensive are the orange ones. They do not have air conditioning (but sometimes have a fan), the speed is low, and they stop on demand. This type of transport is popular with the local population and budget travelers;

slightly more expensive - blue. These are regular buses with air conditioning, toilet and higher speed. The disadvantage of buses of this class is considered a small distance between the seats. Because of this, it is almost impossible to take a nap in the cabin;

the most expensive buses are not tied to one or another body color, they are usually marked with VIP24. They have both double and single seats. The salon always has: air conditioning, toilet, lighting, seats that allow you to sleep a little.

The cost of travel in buses of high comfort, the third kind of buses, is on average 1 THB per kilometer (the total price of the trip can be 1000 THB). On regular buses, the cost averages 7 THB.

Features of traveling by bus
Long-distance buses offer customers nuts and sweets as dry rations. Also, traveling by bus has the following features:

the cost of such transportation is much cheaper than traveling by plane, and slightly more expensive than traveling by train;

local buses move quite quickly (except for the inexpensive orange flights);

bus tickets are almost always available at bus stations.

Minivan / shuttle bus
Slightly faster than a standard bus, out-of-town shuttle buses have 12 seats (minivan) and a journey of up to 4 hours. They depart from bus stations and major transportation hubs. The most common routes are Bangkok to Pattaya and Phuket to Krabi.

Subway
Bangkok has a subway with two overground and one underground branch. Its cost also depends on the distance of the trip. It is a relatively easy and convenient way to get to your destination in the Thai capital quickly and cheaply.

Cab
In major cities you can travel by cab (Taxi Meter), preferably with a meter. The first 300 meters and landing will cost 300 THB, and then the cost is calculated by distance.

The peculiarity of Thai cabs:

Brightly colored bodies (yellow, orange, pink, red, blue).

There is always air conditioning inside.

In order to find out whether the driver is carrying a passenger at the moment, you need to pay attention to the scoreboard. It is illuminated if the cab is free.

The main advantage of a cab in Thailand is the same as in other countries of the world - it is a fast comfortable transportation, movement in which does not depend on other fellow travelers. Besides, the cost of a trip in a local cab for four people is almost equal to the price of 4 bus tickets.

The rainy season in Thailand is quite a misnomer. Many people think that if it is called “rainy season”, it means that it will be watering 24 hours a day. In fact, it rains for a few hours a day, and the rest of the time the sun shines.

In guidebooks and reference books, the period May-October is labeled as the rainy season. During this time the humidity does increase and it does rain. They are usually at night or early in the morning, and by lunchtime the sun warms up the sand and the sea.

The territory of Thailand is large, and the peak of the rainy season everywhere comes at different times: Pattaya - half of August and early September; Phuket - August, September; Koh Samui - from mid-November to mid-December, Koh Chang - June and July. These periods have the highest amount of rainfall. But we should not forget that this phenomenon depends entirely on the cyclone.

As for Phuket, there are only two seasons on the island - the rainy season (late April through October) and the hot season (November through April). The rainy season is a real tropical downpour for several hours a day, the rest of the time is sunny. The wettest month is September, and the best time for a vacation is from November to February, when the temperature ranges from +22 to +34 °C.

In April on Phuket the temperature of air and water (as well as in other months) changes slightly - water remains warmed up to +28 °С, air temperature during the day is +32 °С, at night +25 °С. But rains and winds begin, and the number of vacationers sharply decreases (but not surfers, who in this period, on the contrary, begin to arrive here in search of a good wave).

At the same time, in early April you can catch good weather without much rain and wind, but at the end of the month it will surely be rainy and red flags will be displayed on the beaches, which mean a ban on swimming.

History
The history of the Thai baht is rather simple. The designation “baht” came from the measure of silver equal to about 15 grams. Along with the country's history, Thai currency has been stormy and tossed from side to side. After all, in those days Thailand was very friendly with the British Empire, adopting many good and bad things from it.

Today there is no rigid peg, but the rate is not far from its original version. As of June 2011 it is about 30 THB per 1 USD.

Banknotes and coins
Today in circulation are banknotes of 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 baht, as well as coins of 1 (white), 2 (white and yellow), 5 (white) and 10 (bimetallic) baht. The satang, in turn, is equal to 1/100 of a baht and comes in the form of 50 cu.u. bills and as coins of 50, 25, 20, 20, 10, 5, 1 and 1/2 satang.

A full renovation was completed by the end of 2000 and the historic building entered the new millennium as a 400-bed upper category hotel.
